Summary

Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm。 In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks。 In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance。

Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead。

Sara Ewes, Devine’s coworker and former girlfriend, has been found hanging in a storage room of his office building—presumably a suicide, prompting the NYPD to come calling on him。 If that wasn’t enough, Devine receives another ominous visit, a confrontation that threatens to dredge up grim secrets from his past in the Army unless he participates in a clandestine investigation into his firm。

This treacherous role will take Travis from the impossibly glittering lives he once saw only through a train window, to the darkest corners of the country’s economic halls of power…where something rotten lurks。 And apart from this high-stakes conspiracy, there’s a killer out there with their own agenda, and Devine is the bullseye。

I've been a Baldacci fan for years and always enjoy the opportunity to read his new books。 This one was a slow starter for me and didn't capture my interest as well as previous Baldacci books。 It picked up about halfway through the book and overall was a reasonably satisfying story。 Lots of action, intrigue, a bit of romance, and mystery are sprinkled through with some surprises along the way。 I have a feeling this book might appeal to men more than women based on the fights and action scenes。 S I've been a Baldacci fan for years and always enjoy the opportunity to read his new books。 This one was a slow starter for me and didn't capture my interest as well as previous Baldacci books。 It picked up about halfway through the book and overall was a reasonably satisfying story。 Lots of action, intrigue, a bit of romance, and mystery are sprinkled through with some surprises along the way。 I have a feeling this book might appeal to men more than women based on the fights and action scenes。 Some parts of the book feel rather dated to me。This is described as a stand-alone book but I won't be surprised if it becomes the first in a series。 Travis Devine is a good character and could easily carry a series。 Would I read more in the series if it happens? Probably。 Though this isn't my favorite Baldacci book, it's still well-written with good characters and a compelling plot。 And I can never pass up a new Baldacci book!! 。。。more

Completely up to Baldacci standards。 Great characters, an involved plot and written well to ensure no boredom。 Hopefully this character will live on!

Many bad players and much evil doing, some personal, some globally organizedNot my favorite Baldacci book。 I had to work too hard to figure out and separate clues and characters。 Just counted on all details being explained by the end。

I have read all of David Baldacci's books。 This is a really good thriller and who-did-it mystery。 My favorite Baldacci series is the Camel Club。 I have read all of David Baldacci's books。 This is a really good thriller and who-did-it mystery。 My favorite Baldacci series is the Camel Club。 。。。more

Typically Baldacci, with a lot of twist and turns and a surprise ending。

Travis Devine moves into an apartment with three other unique people。 Devine is employed at a financial institution。 A woman he knows, he dated, shows up dead at his workplace。 Devine is notified via an anonymous text。 A retired army general contacts Devine and cajoles him into doing his bidding。 This is a convoluted mystery, more co-workers wind up dead。 Devine’s previous military history comes into play。 A page turner for sure。

I really don’t like Baldacci’s portrayal of women。 They are two dimensional and lack any insight。 Not that fond of the male characters either。 Basic hero, computer guy, army types, hit all the basic characters。 Plot is pretty good。 An easy read that doesn’t require brain activity。

DissapointedOne of my favorite authors disappoints in 6:20。 So simplified plot, repetitive on top of repetitive stories。 Where’s the author that wrote the Camel Club and the early books that were suspenseful。So disappointed…

Fabulous story Loved it however I’m getting frustrated with books that have 350 pages building to a crescendo that takes 5 pages to end。 I hope Baldacci keeps this character in subsequent books。 Like Christopher Rosow does with Ben Porter in False Assurances, Threat Bias, Subversion Addiction and Vital Deception。

great plot!I liked the surprise identity of the suspect。 It wasn’t until the end that the reader finds out。 Great book as usual!

It's Baldacci - so you know you are going to get a fast paced, totally addictive, hard to put down read, with a great plot。 So no surprises and no disappointment on that score。However, we have a new character - Travis Devine。 Travis is the 6:20 man, catching the 6:20 train into Manhattan each work day morning。 Ex-Army Ranger who left the force under mysterious circumstances。 He's now working in a large investment firm。 A friend of Devine's from the firm is found dead and this, coupled with unusu It's Baldacci - so you know you are going to get a fast paced, totally addictive, hard to put down read, with a great plot。 So no surprises and no disappointment on that score。However, we have a new character - Travis Devine。 Travis is the 6:20 man, catching the 6:20 train into Manhattan each work day morning。 Ex-Army Ranger who left the force under mysterious circumstances。 He's now working in a large investment firm。 A friend of Devine's from the firm is found dead and this, coupled with unusual events at the firm compel Travis to delve into matters。 Another excellent lead character and I look forward to learning more of his back story in what I expect will be more instalments in the Travis Devine series。 。。。more

A Good Baldacci…, but not great First, this story is a little long-winded。 More importantly, it’s not really of the typical quality that I’m used to from this author。 The plot goes along nicely(a little too long) and then it comes to a sudden conclusion…asking the reader for a substantial suspension of disbelief。 It didn’t work for me and was disappointing from this author。

Really enjoyed this novel and the new (hopefully) series start for Travis Devine。 He's an interesting character and there are a lot of directions a series starring him can take。 The characters in this novel were all fascinating in their own ways。 I was surprised frequently at the turn things took and quite surprised at the end。 I enjoyed the roommates and the bikini'd Michelle and the storyline about the brokerage house。 I wonder if the author gave the big boss the name Cowl just so he could ref Really enjoyed this novel and the new (hopefully) series start for Travis Devine。 He's an interesting character and there are a lot of directions a series starring him can take。 The characters in this novel were all fascinating in their own ways。 I was surprised frequently at the turn things took and quite surprised at the end。 I enjoyed the roommates and the bikini'd Michelle and the storyline about the brokerage house。 I wonder if the author gave the big boss the name Cowl just so he could refer to the mansion as the "Cowl palace"。 I liked the hook about the view from the commuter train。The plot got a bit confusing toward the end (in a way, this reminded me of the way the old Grisham novels always got a tad too crazy toward the end) -- but I was pretty satisfied with the way it went -- and pretty sure that Travis will get at least a second story! 。。。more

The storyline is good, but the writing is not typical of Baldacci。 His most recent books are very descriptive of setting, characters, etc。 So much so that I have skimmed some of the verbiage。Is he using a ghost writer now?

A knockoutBaldacci at his best a great thriller, fast paced and riveting。 The plot twist kept on coming。 A must read。
